Tags & Metadata
Rich, searchable information on every asset. Add it yourself or let AI do the work.
Tags
Tags are freeform labels you attach to assets. They are the fastest way to categorize and find content. An asset can have as many tags as you want. Tags are shared across your workspace, so once a tag exists it auto-completes for everyone.
To add a tag, select an asset, open the details panel, and type in the tag field. Press Enter or comma to confirm. To remove a tag, click the X next to it.
AI-generated tags
When you upload images, the AI can automatically suggest tags based on what it sees. A photo of a red sneaker on a white background might get tagged "sneaker", "red", "footwear", "white background", and "product photo". You can accept, dismiss, or edit any suggested tag.
AI tagging runs in the background. Tags appear within a few seconds after upload. You can also trigger AI tagging on existing assets by selecting them and choosing "Generate tags" from the right-click menu.
Custom metadata fields
Tags are great for quick categorization. For structured data, create custom metadata fields. Go to Settings and open the Metadata section. Add fields like "SKU", "Photographer", "Usage rights", or "Season".
Field types include text, number, date, single-select dropdown, and multi-select dropdown. Dropdowns are especially useful when you need consistent values across your team. Set up options like "Spring", "Summer", "Fall", "Winter" for a "Season" field.
Metadata templates
Templates let you apply a set of metadata values to assets in one click. Create a template with preset values for common scenarios. For example, a "Product photo" template might set the type to "product", usage rights to "internal", and add default tags.
Apply a template when uploading or to existing assets. Select assets, right-click, and choose "Apply template". Template values merge with existing metadata. They do not overwrite fields that already have values unless you choose to.
Bulk editing
Select multiple assets and open the bulk edit panel. From there you can add or remove tags across all selected assets, set metadata field values, or apply a template. Changes apply to every selected asset at once.
Bulk tag removal is non-destructive. If you remove the tag "draft" from 50 assets, only that tag is removed. All other tags and metadata stay intact.
Searching by metadata
All tags and custom metadata are fully searchable. Type a tag name in the search bar to find matching assets instantly. Use the filter panel for more precise queries like "Season is Summer" or "Photographer is Jane". Metadata filters also power smart collections.
